Makati

After I resigned from IAS Manila, there was the question of whether or not I should move out of my condominium unit, leave Makati City, and settle back in Batangas (or Los Banos since I do have half-baked plans of teaching in UPLB).

It's not exactly cheap living in Makati after all and I was at the worse financial situation possible back then. After some deliberation however, I decided to stick it out here and I'm quite glad I did.

One of the reasons being that everything is walking distance from where I live: my son's school, the malls, and my clients. I also feel quite safe walking its streets even at 4:00 in the morning while drunk (don't ask why). One other reason is that I got a great view outside my window which never fails to inspire me even after a really bad day.

It's one of the reasons why I love taking pictures of sunrise and sunsets.

Old Friends

One of the things that I look forward to every Christmas is meeting up with my old friends Jean Paul and Lor.

Jean Paul and I have been friends since we were in grade four. Lor and I have known each other since first year high school. The three of us have been friends for most of our lives. We're so close that our respective families treat us like we're part of the brood...which we practically are considering how much time we spent with each other back then.

Over the years we've followed different paths but continually tried to stay in touch with each other.

A decade and 10 pounds heavier later...

Christmas is one of the few times we can actually get together since most of us take time away from work and go home to Batangas. As can be expected from old friend we keep yammering on about our glory days which is a clear sign of advancing age.

Right now it's just Lor and me (Jean Paul arrives tomorrow).

At our old hang-out near the park.

I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to come back tomorrow since I have a wedding to attend but hopefully I can.

Back at home watching a horror flick.

Jean Paul and Lor, I hope to see you guys tomorrow!

Generator by the Foo Fighters

My current favorite song.

Generator
Foo Fighters

Lately I'm getting better
Wish I could stay sick with you
But there's too many egos left to bruise
Call it sin, you can call it whatever
Eating deep inside of you
Well if it were me, it's all I'd ever do

Steal me now and forever
I'll steal something good for you
The criminal in me is no one new
Till you find something better
When there's nothing left to use
And everything starts going down on you

I'm the Generator, firing whenever you quit
Yeah whatever it is, you go out and it's on
Yeah can't you hear my motored heart
You're the one that started it

Send me out on a tether
Swing it round, I'll spin your noose
You let it down
I'll hang around with you
Till you find someone better
When there's no one left to use
And everyone keeps going down

I'm the Generator, firing whenever you quit
Yeah whatever it is, you go out and it's on
Yeah can't you hear my motored heart
You're the one that started it

I'm the Generator, firing whenever you quit
Yeah whatever it is, you go out and it's on
Yeah can't you hear my motored heart
You're the one that started it

I'm the Generator
I'm the Generator
I'm the Generator
I'm the Generator
I'm the Generator
I'm the Generator

Yeah can't you hear my motored heart
You're the one that started it

Christmas Lights

One of the things I look forward to when Christmas comes rolling into town are the Christmas lights the local malls adorn the trees with.

I frequently find myself taking walks during evenings to enjoy the lights and the cool air that December brings. I used to do the same back in college where the administration also adorn the surrounding trees with pinpricks of light.

There is something magical about these lights glowing like a thousand fireflies in the night.

Hope your Christmas is just as magical.

Reunion

Block 7, BS Development Communication, Batch 1993, UPLB.

It's always amazing to find that the bunch of wide-eyed teenagers that
you knew in your youth has become men and women of substance.

Looking forward to dinner with you guys on Sunday.
